Body Clutter

Isn’t it true that clearing the clutter in your home or office makes you feel uplifted and more productive?  It somehow releases great vibes and gives you time and energy to enjoy the things in life that you want to spend time on.

The same goes for your body – we have body clutter inside and out, just as we accumulate junk inside and outside of our homes.  The only difference is that we see our homes and things as tangible objects but often see our bodies as what we’re stuck with.  When it comes to working out and eating right, people have become accustomed to putting off the most important thing of our lives, and letting that junk drain us of energy.

Obesity is at an all time high in America and growing at a rapid rate.  Children are growing up with technology that pins them to their couches, and the world is becoming a more toxic place to live.  We need to break this cycle and get back into the simplicity of living cleaner, healthier lives.

I have recently stumbled on a nutritional cleanse that has helped me release 12 stubborn pounds and gave me the energy to keep going with my exercise program.  I am amazed how great I feel and watching my scale drop every week.  There are a few simple adjustments I’ve made to my routine and you may enjoy incorporating some of these into your own schedule:

1.  Empty out your pantry – Take out everything from top to bottom and wipe down your shelves and bins.  Look at the expiration dates and nutritional value – do you really want to keep that?  If needed, create a separate shelf for snack foods and label it for your family.  I did this for a client who was trying to eat healthier but wanted snack items for her kids, so we labeled that cupboard “Indulgences” and that way whenever she reaches for that area, she is reminded that she is giving up a good meal for an indulgence…  it worked for her!

2.  Commit to eat clean – This was something I had heard about for the past year, but I thought that buying organic food wasn’t in the best interest of my pocket book.  How wrong was I when I found out that I am actually saving money because it tastes better and I am not letting fruits and vegetables go bad.  I actually planted a garden about three weeks ago full of different lettuce, herbs and small veggies which are helping out too!  Looking good huh?

3.  Drink your water – I know this is a given, but since I began cleansing, I started filling my 24 oz. water bottle 3 times a day.  I fill it right when I get out of bed, right after my workout (because when I work out, I always drink a full one) and then again before dinner.  I started putting lemon slices and mint leaves in the water just to make it interesting and I am loving it.  I think this has really contributed to losing all of that puffiness in my face and flushing out the toxins.

4.  Stick to an exercise plan – This is not the easiest for me, but I found this great website Spark People, where I have connected with local women to workout with!  They were within my range of weight loss & have been supporting me like crazy.  I even made some new friends in this big new city that I moved to :)  What I love about it is that I can track my meals and exercise so that I know exactly how many calories I need to burn throughout the week.

5.  Find a plan that is a lifestyle not a diet – I have tried everything there is to try, but my plateau just kept holding me at a weight that I did not feel good about.  I didn’t really yoyo – I just kept going back to this horrifying number like a magnet.  I found a nutritional cleanse that not only dropped my weight, but it restored real nutrition to my body and helped me build healthy muscle.  I hadn’t realized just how much I was depriving myself until I found it and you, too will find energy when you rid your bodies of toxicity.

These are just a few things that have helped me in the past month, and I wanted to share this with you because I truly feel amazing!  Just as with my home, I hope to clear out all of that body clutter so that I have the energy and motivation to do the things that I enjoy.

What are some things that have helped you to lose or maintain?  Have you ever tried nutritional cleansing?

  1. Great suggestions! I need to take stock of these tips, especially water part.

  2. I know these things…but must be reminded of them. I yo-yo…I eat really well and exercise but have a mental block that stops me. I was also told I do not sleep enough too. I have a friend who is such an expert on this. I have never tried a nutritional cleanse but have seriously thought about it…which one did you do?

  3. Oh yeah…happy Featured Lady Bloggers Society Day!

  4. great suggestions. i need to start doing some of these things. inside and out i’m a hoarder and don’t follow “good” rules. sigh…it’s hard to change. enjoy your day as a featured blogger. i hope you have lots of visitors and great comments. congrats on the new house. how exciting. how is that going to work out with the garden you just planted? would be too bad to have to leave your new veggies behind for someone else to benefit from. setting up a garden and planting herbs can be a lot of work but oh so nice and rewarding.

  5. I love this post and all the ideas that you inspired me to incorporate into my daily life!!

  6. I unclutter everything else – I need to start uncluttering body and mind!!!!:) thanks for the great advice!

  7. Congrats on being the featured Lady Blogger today!!

Love this post! I may be horrible at organizing my space, but I’m great about cleaning my body clutter; these tips are wonderful. The part about choosing a lifestyle, not a diet, is crucial — fad diets, and doing things like drinking diet shakes can only last for so long, but teaching yourself how to eat balanced meals will stick with you forever.

I’m a fan of Spark People, too! And, I’ve heard that MyDailyPlate is also a good site to check out.

  8. Good Morning. Stopping by from Lady Bloggers. I really like your blog. I am going to look around a bit. Have a great day!

  9. Great ideas here, as usual! I do make a habit of drinking water everyday – but the rest I sadly fall behind on. I hate the idea of dieting, but your right when you call it a “plan that’s a lifestyle” – gonna have to think on that and set some better examples for the kids.

    Have a great weekend.

  10. I recently slowed down my water intake. I need to rev it up again.

    Great tips.

Happy Feature day at the Lady Bloggers!!

  11. These are great tips — I definitely need some org. help (the peril of living alone is that without anyone else’s opinion to interfere, it’s possible to avoid some of these things ;-) ).

  12. These are all great suggestions! We have really moved to eating more whole foods. We also drink a lot of water in this house. No soda allowed.

Congrats on your featured day at Lady Bloggers!

  13. I’ve been doing so many of these, but I just can’t seem to force myself to drink water. I even have an always-full-and-cold Brita pitcher in the fridge (because I won’t support the bottled water industry). But, I’m going to recommit myself to trying harder.

    Happy LBS Day!

  14. Congratulations on being the Featured Lady Blogger! We are HUGE on eating clean in our house.

  15. I have been doing all of my Spring Cleaning this week and you’re right! I feel so reenergized and uplifted and ready to tackle anything now! I can find things in my drawers without feeling like I’m entering a dark portal to another dimension. lol! Congrats on being the FB at LBS!

  16. I’m glad you are the featured blogger from LBS.
Great post~ love the suggestion of link suggestion of Spark.

  17. Great feature on Lady Blogger! Get it girl!

I am totally all about detoxing the junk food out of my life and commit to a healthy lifestyle change! Thanks for the extra motivation today!

  18. Like others – I’m interested in what cleanse you tried…all good words of advice. I’m not getting a passing grade on all of the items – but will keep working on it!

  19. These are such great suggestions! This is right what I needed today- though I have more than a little weight to let go of, I’ve really got to get rid of the toxins and make room for the good stuff. I also never thought of putting mint in my water – I’ve got to try that. Found your site on Lady Bloggers, btw – I’ll be back!

  20. Thanks everyone for making my day so wonderful!! It’s great to wake up to so many nice comments & new subscribers :) I will get to all of your questions and comments very soon ~ Rene W.

  21. Great Tips and extremely motivational. Looks like I have my work cut out for me :-)
Congrats on being the feature blogger today!

  22. I love information about de-cluttering my life. Unfortunately I need to find some way to follow through on the suggestions. I usually get started and then the clutter moves to another spot in the room, or in my head. I will take your advice though and get started on your suggestions!

I’m a new follower from Lady Bloggers :)

  23. Hey lady blogger!

    I fast a few times a year.

It is really good for you.

Drinking water for just couple of days will not kill you.

It makes you appreciate food again.

  24. First off let me say, Congrats on being the Feature Lady Blogger today!! I love the post…We all need a lot more uncluttered in our lives!! I will definitely be following you!!
    Love From A California Momma,

  25. You nailed it girlfriend!!! You should become a Lifestyle Educator -seriously-. This is motivating me to detox, something I’ve done several times before but have been putting off (aka no will power)as of late. It’s rough but when you do it, you feel amazing. I also see from the comment section that you are featured over at Lady Bloggers- Woot!!! Congrats, Renee!!! :)

  26. so happy you’re the featured lady blogger today!!

i carry my nalgene bottle with me everywhere. it’s my second child. :)

  27. I love your suggestions listed here! It only makes sense to get rid of the clutter in our bodies, since we spend so much effort trying to clean out the mess everywhere else. I have never heard of Spark People before but what a great idea!

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend–I’m stopping in from LBS :)

  28. Number 5 is the most important on this list I think. :) Everyone is different, and everyone needs their own plan. What works for one person, may not work for another. Also, learning to say NO is a great way to retain balance is your life…check out my latest post on “Learning to say NO.”

    Stopping by from LBS.

  29. SITS visiting. Great post. If you want to be healthy, you’ve got to eat healthy. It’s the only way. Thanks for sharing – peace. :)

  30. Thank you for this. I need all the inspiration I can get. I’m trying to get out of exercising today, but reading this makes me realize I need to do it.

  31. LOOOVED this one :) And I love that video.
I finally figured out how to get the youtube videos to show up properly on my blog. All you have to do is edit the size in the html code.

  32. Thanks Crystal! I was bummed that it cut off – I’ll have to try editing the code.

  33. I started out calorie counting a few months ago. It’s a bit tedious at first, but you only have to do it for a few weeks.

It made me feel guilty whenever I put something bad on ther, plus I realized how big (or small) portions should be and that some of my fave foods aren’t actually that bad!! Now that I changed my lifestyle, I eat things I love but I fill up so quickly!

  34. all great suggestions. I often try to drink more water but forget to stick to it after a few days. Would love to hear more about your cleanse. Congrats on losing weight!

Happy SITS day. I love your blog!

  35. I’ve been motivated to detox and am going to Zumba with my girlfriend tonight. Thanks for the extra kick in the pants towards getting healthy and making some good lifestyle changes!

  36. I’ve been a major water drinker since childhood (and my girlfriend did all the pee-ing!) Just started a Zumba class and hope to see some great results… thanks for the tips, SITSta… come visit when you can… I love gardening for all its freshness, too…

  37. Hello SITSta! :) Great blog and good tips – I have been slacking on the water intake lately and need to be better. Twitter: purebebe

  38. Thanks for all the great tips! I just lost 20 pounds following some of these same changes. And I thought it would be hard since I’m a food blogger but it’s been remarkably easy.

  39. This is really good advice. It doesn’t get as much thought as it should.

  40. What a great concept! I have been really struggling with my weight lately and I never thought of it as clutter before. I am very interested in your cleanse that you did. Can you tell me about it? Thanks for such a great blog!

  41. ~~ THANK YOU ALL FOR VISITING & SUCH SWEET COMMENTS :) BECAUSE IT’S MY SITS DAY, I AM RESPONDING TO EVERYONE THROUGH THE MAIN SITS BLOG. IF YOU’VE ASKED ME A SPECIFIC QUESTION I WILL SEND YOU A PM SOON ~~

  42. This is great! I love the feeling of being refreshed after I started drinking a bottle of water ever morning and night in addition to my normal water intake. I also take lots of organic/natural vitamins.
There is also no supplement to replace healthy eating! Whole, healthy foods like veggies, yummy fruits, and lots of protein makes me feel wonderful. It’s great that you focus on all areas of clutter, not necessarily just furniture. :) Looking forward to reading your posts regularly!
